General

As of winter semester 2022/23 , there are three variants of the main subject Bachelor of Computer Science at the LMU:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science with an integrated application subject totaling 180 ECTS
    • Integrated application subject mathematics
    • Integrated application subject statistics
    • Integrated application subject Computational Linguistics
  • Bachelor of Computer Science with a total of 150 ECTS (30 ECTS minor required)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science with a total of 120 ECTS (60 ECTS minor required)

The bachelor's degree programs in computer science as a main subject have local admission restrictions, so an NC (numerus clausus) applies to new applicants.

In addition, the bachelor's degree in computer science can also be studied as a minor subject (admission is not restricted):

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science totaling 60 ECTS (120 ECTS major required)
  • Bachelor of Computer Science with a scope of 30 ECTS (150 ECTS major required)

For students who started before the winter semester 2022/23, the conditions with which they started apply. Legacy courses B.Sc. Informatics+Mathematics, B.Sc. Informatics+Statistics and B.Sc. Informatics+Computational Linguistics continue for those who are already studying them.

The study regulations can be viewed on the LMU website and on the website of our course coordinator Stephan Barth, who also helps with difficult problems during the course of studies during his office hours.

The current examination and study regulations are from October 20, 2010 with changes from August 17, 2015. A revision is expected soon.

The websites of course coordinator Barth and his predecessor Letz given above contain many useful links and are extremely worth reading for every computer science student!

Main points of the PStO

Studies can only be started in the winter semester. The maximum duration of study is 8 semesters. In exceptional cases, the study period can be extended to 9 semesters.

The subject "Introduction to Programming" is the only subject of the basic and orientation examination in the Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. It must be passed within 3 semesters (usually 6 attempts with repeat exams), otherwise there is a risk of exmatriculation.

Failed exams can be retaken as often as you like up to the maximum duration of your studies. In addition, exams that have already been passed can be repeated once to improve the grade.
It should be noted that a few modules (SEP/system internship, bachelor thesis and disputation) are excluded from this regulation.

A recommendation of the study plan can be found in the appendix of the PStO. Another recommendation can be found here under semester planning. The order of occupancy is not mandatory.

Special regulations

The garbage can regulation benefits the major students. According to it, the worst graded accomplishments amounting to 1/6 of the total ECTS are not included in the Bachelor's final grade.

The LMU does not offer part-time computer science courses. If you're interested, we'd love to talk to you. Please contact us !

Semester planning

The following websites are of great importance when compiling the timetable.

Lecture websites

The courses listed here are compulsory or elective subjects and must be passed in order to successfully complete the degree:

Curriculum major https://www.ifi.lmu.de/studium/studiengaenge/bachelor-studiengaenge/bachelor/bachelor#Studienplane
Curriculum minor http://www2.tcs.ifi.lmu.de/~letz/studienplan-nebenfach.shtml

The associated lecture websites are linked in the following overview:

Current course offerings https://www.ifi.lmu.de/lehrangebote1

Exercise and exam registration

Registration for both the tutorials and the (after) exams is done with uni2work (aka "You need to work"):

uni2work https://uni2work.ifi.lmu.de/course

For some modules, registration on other platforms (e.g. Backstage or Moodle) is necessary. This is usually pointed out in the first lecture.

Exam dates

Our course coordinator provides an overview of the current exam dates online: http://www2.tcs.ifi.lmu.de/~barths/stukoordination/klausuren.html

The overview makes it easier for students to plan their exams and overlapping exams can be discovered more quickly. It is not binding.

Grades

Statement of Account

An account statement, not to be confused with the Transcript of Record, can be downloaded from the following page:

Exam administration and information system https://pvineu.ifi.lmu.de/

An English version of the account statement is also available there.
The grades are entered automatically in most cases. Rarely does it happen that the grades are not automatically forwarded to our course coordinator (e.g. in mathematics majors this does not always happen).

Exam review

In the exam review, students can view their written exam again and, if necessary, contest the correction.
Usually there is only one official date on which all exam participants can take part in the inspection. If you are unable to attend, you can request an alternative date.

Despite the greatest care, the information on this site is not binding and should be treated with caution. Only the examination and study regulations published by the LMU are legally binding. This is only a service of the student councils.
