Meteorology

There are additional events for students for meteorology students. There is also further information that only applies to meteorology students.

Events

Meteo round tables

At the beginning of the semester there is usually a regular Meteo table. Students and staff meet there to exchange ideas. There are usually drinks, games brought along, etc. This event is intended for everyone interested in meteorology.

The last round table took place on January 15th, 2020 in A249 in Theresienstrasse.

StuMeTa

On the other hand, the trip to the StuMeTa (Student Meteorologist Conference) is organized by meteorology students every year. This usually takes place around Ascension Day, so the registration period is always at the beginning of the summer semester.

The next StuMeTa will NOT take place in Mainz in 2020 due to the current situation, it won't take place in Mainz again until 2021.

You can find more information at: https://www.stumeta.de/.

Other events

In addition, depending on the willingness to organize, there are also Santa Claus celebrations, New Year's cones, etc.

Nothing is currently planned, but if you want to organize something, just get in touch.

Additional

Networking among students

Because the meteorology courses are very small, there is a lively exchange between the students. If you would like to be in the closed WhatsApp chat or want to know where you can find most Meteo students outside of lectures, then simply register or speak to someone from an older semester.

Minor subject meteorology (for geographers)

There is a mailing list from the university for meteo students. We also announce meteorological events there. If you study NF Meteorology (with a major in Geo) you will not be on the mailing list. You can register for it here.

TIP: If you are just starting your first semester:

Even with a minor in meteorology, you can take part in our O-Phase as a freshman, which will answer many questions about your studies and minor. It is also recommended to take the math preparatory course for physicists. You can find more information here.
