Advice offer

The Studentenwerk's advice centre has asked us to inform you that their services will continue to be available. So if you have major worries, problems due to lost jobs or expiring leases, etc., you can contact their counseling office.

nightline München
The nightline Munich is a "Zuhörtelefon" (which means that you can call there and they will listen to you) from students for students.

Women's representative
The Women's Representative has set up an emergency fund for female students and young female scientists.

What will the teaching activity look like in the summer semester?

On April 6, the university management sent an e-mail to all LMU students via the information service, in which they are informed about the current status of the summer semester:
"The lecture period normally begins on April 20, 2020. In addition, the end of the lecture period will be postponed by two weeks to August 7, 2020, in order to be able to hold courses up to this point if necessary."

Computer Science:
The central registration on Uni2Work was assigned on April 16. If necessary, there are still courses with free places:

A message from our Dean of Studies (
"[...] the summer semester 2020 will take place entirely online until further notice due to the closure of the LMU buildings. The Institute for Computer Science is nevertheless endeavoring to provide the planned courses in other forms with as few restrictions as possible. [...]"

The Chair for Mathematics Didactics has decided to offer courses in the next semester exclusively digitally; for more detailed information (including registration) see:
All mathematics teaching will initially start online. The event manager is responsible for the respective format; There is information on the respective (lecture) websites.

The summer semester starts exclusively with online courses. In order to participate in an event, registration in the LSF is required. All information regarding the registration deadlines at:

O-Phase SoSe 2020

The orientation phase for the summer semester 2020 has been canceled. Current information can be found here:


Since the validation of the LMUCard is now hardly possible due to the closure of the university building, special regulations were made for the use of MVV transport in the summer semester:

A student ID validated for WiSe 19/20 is also valid for SoSe 2020 until further notice.

Are all exams canceled?

The exams in the physics department are omitted.

In computer science, tests can be carried out under strict measures. An overview of the canceled exams can be found here:

In mathematics, exams can also be carried out under strict measures. Check the websites of your lectures regularly and, if necessary, contact your lecturer icon if there is no information about the exams.

Are the exams repeated?

The faculties will endeavor to repeat the exams. However, it is not yet possible to estimate when that will be. The faculties will contact you as soon as they themselves know more.


Do I still have access to the LMU buildings?

No, since Tuesday, March 17th, 2020, all of the university's buildings have been gradually closed to the public. Exceptions apply in special cases. If you need to have access to a university building, contact your faculty directly.


Closure of the Cafe Gumbel

The Cafe Gumbel is closed indefinitely. We ask you to take this into account and prefer to stay at home.
In addition, the student council's office is not staffed.

Don't worry about the plant in the gumbel, it will be taken care of by a student body icon at home in the meantime.

Are the libraries open?

Some university libraries will open for lending from April 21.

The Departmental Library of Mathematics, Physics and Meterology has now reopened to borrow books:

Are the CIP pools open?

The CIP pools are closed until further notice. The computers of physics and computer science (current status at can still be accessed online.

The current situation is of course not easy, neither for the university nor for the students. But there is nothing left but to wait and drink tea until it is clear how to proceed. Stay healthy and until better times!
